How your data is handled
Last updated June 12, 2026
Your notebooks are yours. This page explains, in plain language, exactly how Keep handles your pages — what we store, who can and can’t see them, and how the AI features use them. The formal version lives in our Terms; this is the human one.
What we keep
Your email address, the writing you bring in — scanned page images, and typed notes you paste or import — the transcriptions and dates Keep generates from them, and basic account and usage information. That’s it — we don’t track you for advertising.
Who can see your pages
Only you. Your notebooks are isolated to your account at the database level — no other Keep user can ever reach them.
Not even our team. Our internal tools show account information and counts — how many notebooks or pages an account holds — never the content of your pages.
How the AI features work
To make your handwriting searchable, Keep sends your scanned page images to our AI provider, Anthropic, to transcribe them. (Typed notes you import aren’t sent for transcription — they’re already text.) When you use Ask, or for your daily Spark, relevant pages from your own archive are sent to Anthropic to write the answer or the reflection. Specifically:
- Your writing is never used to train AI models.
- Ask and Spark only ever use your own notebooks — never the internet, other users, or outside knowledge.
- Anthropic processes your writing only to carry out your request, and under its commercial terms does not train on it.
What we never do
Sell your data. Use it for advertising. Train AI on it. Or share it with anyone beyond the service providers below that are needed to run Keep.
The services that run Keep
Keep relies on a few trusted providers, each receiving only what it needs to do its job:
- Supabase — your database, page storage, and sign-in.
- Vercel — hosts the app.
- Anthropic — transcribes scanned pages and powers Ask and daily Spark.
- Resend — sends account emails.
- Stripe — processes payments; we never see your card details.
Your control
From your account you can export a complete copy of your archive at any time, and permanently delete your account and everything in it yourself — no need to ask us.
Security, honestly
Your pages live in private, access-controlled storage, and your connection to Keep is protected. We don’t offer “zero-knowledge” privacy where even we couldn’t read your data — transcribing, searching, and answering questions all require Keep to read your pages to index them. So rather than promise something impossible, we focus on strict access controls, not selling or training on your data, and giving you full control to export or delete it.
Questions or changes
Reach us anytime through the support form. If we make a material change to how data is handled, we’ll update this page and let you know in the app.
